Air Canada to quickly minimize at the very least 1,500 jobs, droop 17 international routes

MONTREAL — Air Canada will quickly lay off 1,500 unionized workers and an unspecified variety of administration workers because it cuts extra routes.

Air Canada will quickly droop service on 17 routes to the U.S. and different worldwide locations till at the very least April 30, the corporate says.

The route suspensions within the U.S. embrace flights beginning Feb. 16 or 17 to New York, Boston and Washington, D.C., Seattle, Denver and Fort Myers, Air Canada says.

Air Canada can also be suspending flights to Bogota from Montreal, London and Tokyo from Vancouver, and Bogota, Dublin and Sao Paulo from Toronto, amongst different routes, the corporate says.

The layoffs and route cuts come as Canada rolls out stricter measures to cut back worldwide journey, together with obligatory lodge quarantines for brand new entrants.

On the finish of January, Canadian airways agreed to droop all flights to Mexico and the Caribbean till April 30, on the request of the federal authorities.

This report by The Canadian Press was first printed Feb. 9, 2021.
