Northern KZN councillor ‘shot greater than 20 instances’ in obvious hit

An ANC councillor and induna (headman) of a northern KwaZulu-Natal village was gunned down in a suspected hit on Monday morning.

Philip Mkhwanazi, the induna of Khula village within the Dukuduku reserve, 5km outdoors St Lucia in northern KwaZulu-Natal, died in a hail of bullets about 11am fired by two unknown males who had spoken to him moments earlier than they opened hearth.

Police spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbele mentioned Mkhwanazi had been close to his house, standing below a tree, whereas two males repaired his car close by.

“He was in his village with two individuals who have been repairing his automobile. Two unknown males approached him on foot and mentioned they wished proof of residence, as a result of they wished to open an account on the financial institution.”
