Australia’s Wollemi pines survived the dinosaurs and now firefighters have nursed them through the country’s unprecedented bushfire season to live another day. When seen from above – amongst acres of charred, native forest – there is a skinny path of inexperienced. Firefighters have been winched in by helicopter to activate irrigation techniques, whereas different plane dropped water and retardant alongside the flames’ edge to minimise their impression. The enormous bushes have been considered extinct till 1994, when authorities discovered 200 of them in a nationwide park close to the Blue Mountains, north-west of Sydney
