This traditional Australian album was born in breakdown, illness and drama

“I believed what a voice, what a band, what a groove… I wager they will’t do it reside,” says Jeremy Furze of first listening to The Teskey Brothers in 2017. It’s an unlikely revelation to return from somebody who would go on to grow to be the supervisor of Warrandyte’s rock’n’soul band.

That is one among many scrumptious quotes we recorded whereas making Mushroom Group’s debut podcast collection 180 Grams, which dives deep on traditional albums. Our first topic chosen was The Teskey Brothers’ tough – and Grammy Award-nominated – second album Run Dwelling Sluggish.

My producer and I trekked out to the band’s residence city, Warrandyte, for a discovery session with The Teskey Brothers and their supervisor. Previous to this assembly, I noticed them as 4 good guys, if a little bit beige. However as Bob Dylan sang, they comprise “multitudes”.

We shortly learnt that throughout the recording of Run Dwelling Sluggish all the things that would go fallacious did go fallacious. All 4 members had been having main points of their residence lives, coming off an extended tour. Add to that, their Zen-master British producer Paul Butler was “going via a divorce. And I had a seven-month-old child. It was so much.”
