Two candidates sq. off in St-Leonard byelection

Angela Gentile (Ensemble Montréal), left, and Arij-Abrar El Korbi (Projet Montréal) are the 2 candidates within the St-Léonard-Est byelection.

There’ll be a two-way race to elect the subsequent metropolis councillor for St-Leonard on March 15.

The byelection pits Projet Montréal’s Arij-Abrar El Korbi in opposition to Angela Gentile from Ensemble Montréal. The deadline for candidates to use for the election expired Friday.

El Korbi is a commissioner with the Fee Scolaire de la Pointe-de-l’Île and member of the town’s youth council. Gentile was comptroller and basic supervisor of the Pépinière Piazza Gentile — a backyard provide and landscaping retailer.

“I’m going again into politics to present again to the neighborhood that made me the lady I’m at this time,” Gentile stated at her marketing campaign launch final month.

El Korbi ran in below the Projet Montréal banner within the 2017 elections and her platform focuses on enhancing entry to public transit and making St-Léonard extra inclusive to minorities.

Town council seat for St-Léonard-Est was vacated final 12 months after Ensemble Montréal councillor Patricia Lattanzio was elected to the Home of Commons for the Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel district.
