U.S. Arrests Spouse of El Chapo for Worldwide Drug Trafficking

Emma Coronel Aispuro, the spouse of Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, the notorious drug lord generally known as “El Chapo,” was arrested Monday at Washington Dulles Worldwide Airport in Virginia on costs associated to her alleged involvement in worldwide drug trafficking and her husband’s dramatic jail escapes, reports the Washington Post. Coronel Aispouro was charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for importation into the US with Guzmán’s Sinaloa Cartel, U.S. authorities stated. The DOJ alleged that Coronel Aispuro conspired with others to help Guzmán’s July 2015 escape from Mexico’s infamous Altiplano jail and engaged in planning one other escape with others earlier than Guzman’s extradition in January 2017. Prosecutors stated her husband periodically messaged her whereas he was on the run from Mexican authorities and allegedly referred to the logistics of drug trafficking.
